Turn the Lights Off!

"When I was a child, this was the answer to why we need to save energy: 'If you don’t turn off the lights, sea levels will rise, the water will flood the Netherlands, the Dutch will move here, and we’ll end up with even more annoying neighbors.”

Although in Hungary, electricity is primarily generated from nuclear power, which arguably has the least direct impact on global warming, it is still indirectly connected to it. Turn the Lights Off! is an interactive light installation that playfully demonstrates how our world is made up of complex systems and how seemingly distant phenomena can affect one another. Visitors are tasked with turning off as many lightbulbs as quickly as possible to stop the rising levels of the oceans.  But a single switch doesn’t just control one light, so turning off all the lights requires a bit of logical thinking.

How It Was Made
I designed the operation of the installation, including various components such as the laser lift and the switch system. I modeled the laser lift, 3D-printed certain elements, and assembled them. I designed the circuit, then we programmed and tested it. Finally, we set it up at the Sooda Agency Light Up! party.
